 Trans-Siberian Orchestra

In all the years that we’ve been selling Christmas music at Incahoots, there has been one album that’s been requested by customers more than any other. And no, it’s not “Christmas Arias for Two” by William Shatner and Rex Harrison, it’s “Christmas Eve & Other Stories” by Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Well I’m happy to report that we finally have it! For those not familiar with this CD, it features Christmas tunes in more of a rock style, and includes the rockin’ version of “Carol of the Bells” that will make you grab your air guitar, stick out your tongue, and nod your head to the beat. And it’s just $12.99.

Jackie Evancho

Fans of Jackie Evancho, the young mezzo-soprano who wowed the world with her astounding singing voice, were begging for more when she released her holiday EP ‘O HOLY NIGHT’ in 2010. This year, Evancho is back with her first full-length holiday recording, and to keep the begging to a minimum, another CD featuring movie favorites.

HEAVENLY CHRISTMAS features a collection of holiday classics that make wonderful use of her rich, angelic vocals. The fare leans toward the tender side, with songs like “What Child Is This,” “The First Noel” and “Walking in the Air” that are appropriate to Evancho’s operatic style of singing. She is backed on the album by the symphonic splendor of the Orchestra of St. Lukes and the New York Chorus of St. Cecilia.

On SONGS FROM THE SILVER SCREEN, Jackie poignantly sings some of the most memorable songs from the big screen. Her sweet soprano voice brings out the enchantment in the confection “Pure Imagination,” and a nuanced take on “My Heart Will Go On” rivals Celine Dion’s original. Other songs include “Reflection” from “Mulan,” “Come What May” from “Moulin Rouge” and “Music of the Night” from “Phantom of the Opera” Guests include Chris Botti, Joshua Bell and The Canadian Tenors.

Celtic Woman

Songs include “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” “Auld Lang Syne,” “We Three Kings,” “What Child is This,” “Silent Night,” and more. You’ll find both Christmas albums by Celtic Woman on the holiday music rack at Incahoots.

Dec 05

The Winter Solstice offers yet another excuse for a party in December, and if you’re having a party, you need a little music. We’re happy to offer a couple of exciting new releases this year.

First up, is the music of John Huling. He’s just released Winter Solstice – Southwest Meditations, an album of musical stories with haunting Native American flute melodies and meditative drumming enveloped in the sounds of nature. This is contemplative, peaceful music for meditation, dreaming, and healing your spirit.

Hmmm…I guess that may not sound like most people’s idea of party music. Never fear, we have another selection.

A solstice CD that I plan to add to my personal collection is Song of Solstice by Jennifer Cutting’s Ocean Orchestra. This album of Celtic music offers original and traditional songs for midwinter. From pieces that encourage introspection to lively tunes that will have you singing along, this CD is a gift to help banish the winter gloom.
